By accident I stumbled on the Lake City High School Timberwolves - Post Falls Trojans softball game Tuesday afternoon. It was one of those things, you know, a nice surprise. And there were many surprises. I had heard that Jessica Ross might be catching for the T-Wolves this year. The catcher is ALWAYS my favorite position. And there she was out there catching. I knew JR as a great outfielder, but she must be some kind of athlete to be able to make that transition to behind the plate. Especially with Lela Work pitching because she can REALLY heave the ball. Anyway, I think Jessica Ross could be the most under rated high school athlete in the area. She is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

So, everything I said about JR being a great athlete and all, Jordan Shoening shows up behind the plate for Post Falls. It is well documented how well she plays basketball, but I didn't even know she played softball. Just looked at one of last year's rosters, she isn't on there. So, here is someone who has not played varsity softball, to the best of my reckoning anyway, and drawing the toughest position on the field, catching, and catching Post Falls' Blake Meredith. JS had a couple of balls get by her, but I'll tell you, an amazing performance. I am so happy to see her playing something outside. It is a testament to her athletic ability.

The biggest surprise of the day though was the LCHS middle infield. Freshman Katie Rowe was at short stop along with Jamie Hall at second base. I haven't see Lakeland, Timberlake or Coeur d'Alene, but have to believe this is the best combination in the area. And by chance if it isn't, this young dynamic duo will dominate in the coming years. WOW!!

Overall, it was a day of surprises and nice surprises at that. Congrats to both teams, can't wait to see you play again.
