Softball! CHS at LCHS 5-14-10

The T-Wolves advance to the state tournament with a 3-0 win over cross-town rival Coeur d'Alene. Very strange game for this year. Both teams came out and played like champions.

The first thing to mention is CHS's Kyeli Parker at third base. She made two heady plays today, both times fielding a ground ball with a runner on second and getting that runner in a run down and eventually out.

Parker.

But to me the difference in today's game was three-fold: Casey Stangel was pitching bullets, the LCHS batting order pitting Stangel after Katie Rowe and zero Keystone Cops plays. ( For you youngsters, here is a YouTube you can click on or cut and paste into your browser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZBdxvego1E .

Stangel.

I thought there was an air of intensity I haven't felt at any game this year from both teams. Bothe teams played well. In a way I thought the game should have ended with Stangel striking out the side.

Yurick.

But with two outs, one of CHS's players, I don't know who it was, smashed a line shot to right. I mean she crushed the ball. Any other outfielder in most leagues with a 3 run lead would have let it drop for a base hit. But not sophomore right fielder Jamie Yurick. She was on it and made a spectacular diving catch. What a PLAY! I can not get it out of my mind. That play represents, to me, the spirit of the T-Wolves going into the game. If they can bottle that intensity and focus then play 3 more days with it, any good team will have a tough time beating them. Good luck at the state tournament T-Wolves!
