Lake City finally did away with Lewiston in the continuation of yesterday's rain out. I feel bad for Lewiston as they are an excellent team. I would believe a Lewiston - Lake City final in the state championship. In all fairness, Lewiston had the game but Lake City who did not play particularly well came back and made runs when they needed them. The LCHS batting order has come through all year long, doesn't seem to matter if it is 6-7-8 or 2-3-4 or any other combination the whole line-up has come through. But today the deadliest combo was Ross - Rowe - Work. I think that was the order. Lela Work came up with some big hits. I don't want to say you expect great things from Work, but she is a senior, has proven herself time and time and time again and you just want her to be in the mix of things weather pitching, playing a position ( she looked GREAT at short last week) or hitting. She CAN do it all. Katie Rowe is a freshman. I've seen her boot a couple of balls, but I'll tell you, I don't want to see anyone else at shortstop. She is just a freshman, but she seems to KNOW the game as well if not better than anyone. Situational awareness I think someone called it. To top it off, the girl can hit. She hit a foul ball today that was way longer than the fence, and since Work follows her in the batting order, teams just aren't going to walk her. And yes, she has had a ball squirt passed her or miss-handled one, but she has also made some great plays and makes the routine ones, well, routinely. When the pressure's on, I'll take Rowe at short, or at bat or in the outfield. I hear she can pitch, too. And what about Jessica Ross! She picked off a runner at first today.
WOW! I love to see that. And I know she had two RBIs and at least 2 doubles, I think one of them put the T-Wolves ahead for good. All this and she's a lefty. A lefty catcher. I don't know these kids, but to me, Ross looks like she is just out to have fun. She looks like she is having fun all the time. There's a quiet confidence there that I just wouldn't want to face if I was on the other team.
