I am more than willing to admit that I do not know much about horses. I love the animals and the romantic lore that surrounds them. And every so often, something happens that makes my ears perk up. On Sunday, a rider watching the races says to her horse in a soft caring voice to her horse " I said whoa, not inch up a little". I am still laughing about it today. In fact, I almost couldn't photograph the races because I was laughing so hard.

At most events like this, someone or something illustrates words I have read by Zane Grey or Louis Lamour. Here is the picture that did that for me on Sunday:

This is the spirit of the American West.

So, all the images are in the galleries now. All that is left to do is clean up my cameras. 

By the way, when I arrived at the arena a couple hours before the first race Saturday, I was surprised at the amount of trash on the ground by the judging stands, old soda cans and water bottles. They were old so I know that they were not left there by anyone associated with Kootenai County Saddle Club barrel races. But in the true spirit of the west, volunteers from the KCSC left the area clean, much, much better than they found it. Nice job everyone on a great event!
